A message from Jon’s oldest daughter, Erica:
Dear Friends & Family:
I am sending the first email communication to our extended family about the sudden death of my father, Rev. Jon E. Swenson. Many of you already know about his passing, and some of you do not.
There are so many of you, that loved my father and were loved by him in return, that email seems an efficient way to get in touch with as many of you as possible. Each of you, please feel free to forward this information on to others whom you feel would want to be included.
Rev, Pop, Pop-Pop, Jon, Eric, Rick or Swede passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning, July 14th, approximately 6 a.m. Pop (as I refer to my Dad!) had elective gall bladder surgery a week ago, and had recovered successfully. As usual, he probably did too much in the past week.
On Tuesday evening, the 13th, I called him to check on his recovery and he was eating dinner at 9 p.m., after working a 10 hour day with his beloved CityTeam in his usual boisterous spirits. By 10 pm, he was suffering what he thought was stomach pain, but was probably the beginnings of a heart attack. By 5 am, he was in significant pain, and asked my mother, Lois, to call 911. He died from a heart attack by 6 am.
Pop did not have any history of heart disease. The most likely explanation is that he had a blood clot in his body, that possibly formed due to the surgery, and the clot went to his heart causing the heart attack.
At first I thought about Pop’s life ending so quickly at age 68. But then I began to think how Pop had enhanced ‘living life to the limit’ to an absolute art form. He jammed more people, events & things into every day of his life, so he actually had lived 140 years in a 70 year span!
In the first 36 hours hours since his death, we his family have literally heard hundreds of stories from people: how ‘The Rev’/Jon/Eric/Pop had touched their lives. We look forward to sharing with all of you in celebrating Jon’s life on Wednesday.
As Pop would say:
PRAISE GOD FOR YOU!!
